Here's our family portrait for 2007 followed by the story of how it was created.

One afternoon, about a week before Christmas, we closed the studio and began a session with Glenn's family and
with Carolyn's family. (Carolyn is our production coordinator)

While everyone's certain that our sessions must be quick, simple and painless - well, think again.
Even the staff and their families have a fun time at it!

My family wasn't totally convinced that we'd all fit in the black chair that I love so much.   I'd been planning for months to use this chair for our  Christmas picture - so even if we needed grease I was certain we'd all make it in the chair.

I've got a monitor set up by the camera so I can see what the pics look like.   I'm posing from in front of the camera and Carolyn's pressing the button.

Hey, this is just testing the pose.  At some point we have to add Molly our Coton de Tulear (Madagascan for white, fluffy, high maintenance little dog).  The challenge is always Molly - who's obviously not quite in the pic yet.
OK, it's obvious that earlier pose just didn't work for us.   Nancy and Janell just didn't want to share the chair.   Now that I'm balanced out on the arm I think we're ready to add Molly.  I wish you could see all of Carolyn's family trying to get Molly to look at the camera and smile - come on guys, just squeak the toy.
New pose!   We (meaning Nancy and Janell) immediately decided that I am too tall sitting on the back of the chair.....so do we shorten the chair or whack a few inches out of me???   Come on Molly - look at the camera.
Unless she's getting lots of love Molly has an attention span of about 3 seconds.   Thankfully we'd hit on some good ones before she decided she was totally bored with the being a model thing.
We talk a lot in our brochures and ads about the bonds that make families unique - our family is not exempt.   So much of the emotion that a portrait holds is in the remembering the joy that went into creating the image.
We admit it - we're all crazy about the little white fluff.  She's 8 pounds of white hair that just loves to hug.   Actually, I think we're looking at the monitor at how wacky we looked in another pose.
This really was the last picture of the afternoon - we had a blast.  Hope you enjoyed watching some of the fun.   No matter what - families in the studio are always laughing, hugging - just loving being together.   I'll look forward to sharing a smile with your family.

While we had the time and had the two families in the studio we did this one of the three girls - our Janell and Carolyn's Amy & Kathleen.   They've all grown up together - and have been photographed here in the studio more than any of  us want to admit.   They're good sports about testing new backgrounds and props or a new light.

A Tech student, an Elon grad and a Clemson grad.

Oh, what about Carolyn's family.....

Well, we actually started the afternoon with them.  I have this big, furry bag in the studio - we really use it a lot with high school seniors - it's actually about 60 pounds and is 5 ft in diameter.   I'd been wanting to try it with a family portrait.......so here we go!

Just getting an individual placed and posed on this bag is sometimes a challenge - now we're going to do it with 4 people!   I'll tell families to squeeze in and feel the love....this was almost too much fun.
Patience is rewarded - or better yet, a fun adventure is rewarded!   We got a great family portrait for Carolyn and her bunch.
